StemPath aims to be the source for stem cell and regenerative medicine news, views, and concepts to pathologists and other physician scientists.
The idea for this blog came about when I was presenting at the recent USCAP meeting. The questions following my presentation were not directed toward the study design or interpretations, rather they originated from confusion about what a stem cell actually is.
"So, what is the difference between a stem cell and a progenitor anyway?" one well respected pathologist remarked.
That may not seem like a simple question and in fact it is not an easy one to answer. However, I knew then that regenerative medicine has not reached the mainstream practicing pathologist and the concepts of stem cell biology that underlie this new field of study need to be given a voice.
In this blog I will focus on concepts of stem cell biology, markers of stem cells and progenitors in health and disease, current happenings in the field, and the future practice of regenerative medicine.
